Unearthing 2400 Years – South Tamil Nadu Archaeological Trail

Embark on an immersive, curated heritage expedition tracing twenty-four centuries of living history, held on Saturday, 8 August 2026 across Virudhunagar and Madurai districts. From early rock-cut cave sanctums and active excavation trenches at Vembakottai to rare monolithic stone sculptures, this trail brought ancient South Indian civilizations to life with expert on-site commentary. The trail covered the Thiruthangal Early Pandya Temple, Vembakottai Excavation Site, Sevalpatti Early Pandya Cave and Malayadipatti, including exclusive guided access to Vembakottai's active archaeological excavation trenches, exploration of 8th-century Early Pandya cave shrines and monolithic relief art, and field lectures on pottery typology, Sangam age trade routes, and epigraphy.
