
In memory of the renowned historian Prof. R. Venkataraman, the 3rd Annual Memorial Public Lecture hosted by FoHS, FoHS Pandyas and Ulaga Tamil Sangam, Madurai, brings together scholars to reflect on early Tamil epigraphy and heritage studies. This year’s theme focuses on 'Ports, Pearls & Cultural Crossroads: Maritime-Hinterland Linkages in Ancient Tamizhagam,' uniting insights from specialists such as Dr.. P.J. Cherian, Dr. K.P. Shajan, and Dr. Dinesh Krishnan. The lecture delves into the maritime networks of ancient Tamilakam, especially the role of Pandya port towns in transoceanic trade by Dr. V. Vedhachalam. Discussions also cover megalithic archaeology, coastal settlements, and script development. With a special address by Dr. V. Selvakumar and travel of Kannagi and worship by Dr. K.T. Gandhirajan, the event serves as a vital forum to celebrate, reinterpret, and disseminate Tamil heritage to both scholars and the public.
